Why I Link The Liberals

December 14, 2008 · Filed Under PNN · 3 Comments

When we launched Political Net News, we got a lot of criticism from a few South Carolina’s Republican activists for advertising the “garbage” being spread by the liberal leftist bloggers.  Just so you know, we link their posts on PNN for four good reasons:

  1. It’s important to know what the other side is thinking and doing.
  2. It’s important for our state to debate all sides of an issue to find real solutions to our problems.
  3. Most of the liberal bloggers are pretty cool people. They just have bad ideas.
  4. We need to start debating the liberals because they will make significant advancements, even here in hardcore conservative South Carolina, if we Republicans keep eating our own.

So yeah, we link the liberals just as much as we link the conservatives.

Light PNN Updates This Weekend

September 5, 2008 · Filed Under PNN, Uncategorized · Comment

I’m heading to the middle of nowhere Virginia this weekend for a family ruin and I seriously doubt they have the Internets up there. I’ll start updating again on Sunday afternoon. Have a great weekend.

Q & A About PNN

September 3, 2008 · Filed Under PNN, Uncategorized · Comment

I’ve received a few questions about PNN that I want to answer:

Can you organize the links by region and separate out opinion pieces from real news?

Maybe one day, but we designed PNN with the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) model.  I believe that Twitter is blowing up right now because of its simplicity. With that thought, we wanted to keep PNN very clean and simple so that it’s extremely easy to read.

Will you be advertising?

Again, maybe one day. It would be nice to make a penny for our efforts.  Like I just said, we want to keep this site clean and easy to read.  We used the dull colors to make it easy on the eyes and we purposely stayed away from moving and bright images.

Can you make the font bigger?

Yes, we took care of that for you.

You said that you would operate under full disclosure. Who do you work for?

Currently I work for the South Carolina Senate Republican Caucus and I co-own a political Internet development and strategy firm called Under The Power Lines. PNN is an official news site of UTPL. You can see my past and current clients here and you can view some of UTPL’s work here.

Why do you have some blogs and national news outlets in your South Carolina News section?

Good question. We debated that one for a while and this is what we came up with. If the blog is a part of a MSM media outlet like Brad Warthen’s blog is part of The State and Paul Hyde’s blog is part of SHJ, we are putting it in the SC News section. Also, if a national news story is about a South Carolina official, we are putting it in the SC News section. You can expect to see a lot of those with DeMint, Graham, and Clyburn.

Why do you post some blog posts but not others?

For the same reason we post some news stories and not all of them. We will try to be fair and balanced, but we have to maintain some sort of editorial control. That’s why we don’t have the site set up with automatic RSS feeds.  Let’s use Will Folks’ FITSNews.com for an example. His posts about South Carolina politics are straight when he’s not completely crossing the line like he’s known to do, but his posts about Britney’s breasts are way out there. We will post the former, but not the latter. Unless of course some South Carolina politico is involved with Britney’s breasts. Stranger things have happened.

What’s up with the Geek Links?

There are just random links that grab my attention. Most of them are about tech news and the Gamecocks. Expect completely random things about Hootie, Wu Tang, and tacos to show up also.
