I grew up in Section 8 housing, on welfare. My family struggled through poverty and violence. I witnessed my parents broken down by addiction. But, I made a choice a long time ago, that how I started wouldn’t determine how I finished.
It hasn’t been easy. In fact, it’s been everything but easy. But every day I’m determined to move a little closer to my goal. The stuff you see on social media – the house, the race medals, the companies that I’ve built, the US Senators I consult – aren’t just material things to me. They represent thousands of hours of showing up and doing the work. And, I share them because I want you to see that if someone like me can find a measure of success, then you certainly can too.
These days, I have my wife and three amazing boys in my corner. I’m not just running for me anymore, I’m running for them. I suppose in some sense, I always have been.
