A fitness update
Running season is officially here. A few weeks ago I began transitioning from rucking back to running by slowly increasing my mileage each week. Last week was the first hard training week with a total of five runs adding up to thirty-five miles, including a ten miler and some garage work (because hill work is nearly impossible in the SC lowcountry). My goal is to get 41 miles in next week . I want to be up to 50 miles a week before the Savannah Rock and Roll Marathon in November.
My Race Schedule
Savannah Rock and Roll Marathon: Nov 5
Sweet Tea Half Marathon: Nov 12
Kiawah Marathon: Dec 10
Asheville Marathon: March 12
Palmetto 200: March 24
My Running Goals
1. Really follow a strict running plan this time, unlike my last marathon
2. Be running 50 miles a week a month prior to Savannah
3. Finish Savannah under 4 hours
4. Finish Kiawah under 3:45
5. Finish Charleston under 3:30
6. Possibly go for a BQ in Asheville
I also began a mental transition this week. If you’ve read my blog frequently you know that I put a big emphasis on mental training. You gotta get yo mind right for endurance events. That counts for training too. A motivated brain is a well trained body. This week I began rereading Hal Higdon’s Marathon, I read the last three editions of Runners World magazine, I listened to two Runners World podcasts and I listened to Eric Orton’s the Cool Impossible while running. I’m motivated to run when my brain is thinking of running.
As for diet, I’m playing with a few different things right now, including some new pre run foods. I’ll write separately on that soon.
I hope to see you on the road soon,
