Elected to the South Carolina Senate in 2013, he is known as a thoughtful, pragmatic leader who champions efforts moving the state forward by reaching beyond party lines and to find common ground. Despite his relatively short time in the State House, Thomas has been recognized by numerous organizations for his work, including the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and the State Legislative Leaders Foundation Leaders Program at the Darden School of Business.
Since 2014, he has served as an Honorary Wing Commander (civilian) for the 20th Fighter Wing at Shaw Air Force Base. A talented student athlete, Thomas lettered in cross country and track and field at Davidson, earning Southern Conference all-academic honors and serving as captain of the cross-country team. Thomas holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Davidson College and Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He is a Fellow of the 2018 Class of Liberty Fellowship and is a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
