Your Monday Positive Vibes
“My only enemy is me and even I can’t stop me.” – Andy Mineo
It’s all about me. Seriously. Can’t you tell from this picture?
I’m actively trying to drill this into my head. Sounds pretty selfish, right? It’s not what you think.
How is Ma Bell riding?
What was Middle School’s marathon time in NYC?
How many clients do my competitors have?
What’s Revelry Brewing doing this weekend?
My biggest single flaw is my obsession with what everyone else is doing. You could call it jealousy. Maybe envy. It’s one of those deadly sins. I guess the 10 Commandments calls it coveting.
Except it’s not a material thing. I’m not a materialistic person at all. I don’t care what other people have. It’s more of a success thing. I want others to absolutely crush it. They motivate me to do more. Competition is good for everyone. But then I get jealous and it often becomes an obsession. I concentrate more on them than I do me. I obsessively compare myself to everyone around me.
Coach Chris is really hammering this into my soul. He gets so sick of hearing me talk about other everyone else’s times. Stop comparing myself to others. Only compare myself to myself.
I didn’t start any of this to be better than anyone else. I started doing all this because I want to be better than me. Every single day I want to wake up better than yesterday’s version of me. I want Monday’s Wesley to be better than Sunday’s Wesley.
Middle School’s marathon time doesn’t matter. The only time that matters is my previous time and the only goal that matters is a PR (personal record). The only person I’m trying to beat is Wesley. As rapper Andy Mineo says “my only enemy is me and even I can’t stop me.”
Comparing yourself to anyone else is only going to create jealousy and envy and those do absolutely nothing but build negative vibes. Flip that on it’s head by only comparing yourself to yourself. The only thing that really matters is that you are becoming a better version of yourself. And that brings all the Positive Vibes in the world.
I hope your Monday and your week is totally full of Positive Vibes.
PS – Ma Bell and Middle School are the names given to us by our workout group, F3. I’m Jingles. Nice to meet you.
