The most overwhelming question ever.
I’m huge on goals. Five year goals. One year goals. Monthly goals. Weekly goals. Daily goals. I live by them. I accomplish monumental things I used to think were pipe dreams because everything I do is based on a goal. If something comes across my plate that doesn’t work toward a goal, then I eliminate it.
People ask me every single day – how do you get so much done?
It’s not easy but it’s certainly calculated. I set goals, break them up into smaller goals and then set daily tasks. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time… just don’t tell PETA.
But, while I preach goal setting at every opportunity, there is a question that overwhelms me to the point of complete inaction – what is your 25 year plan?
My financial advisor always asks it. It’s a question that is always in my face, staring me down. How do you plan for your long term future when you don’t know what you want that future to look like?
Today, it’s inescapable because I’m at a two day business retreat with that being the overarching topic. I’m supposed to figure that shit out and start planning.
This retreat is being held on Hilton Head Island. I drove here from Summerville. I set the destination in my Waze app. It showed me the course. I drove.
Without knowing the destination, I could have ended up in Greenville or Wilmington or Savannah. But I made it just fine to Hilton Head because I knew my destination and followed the path.
That’s also how I became a marathoner, an Ironman, an entrepreneur and a father. But, for some dang reason, I just can’t think beyond ten years. It’s just too big.
So, that’s what I’m doing today. I’ll report back soon with the tips and tricks I learn.
Wishing you nothing but positive vibes.
