A Runner’s High

By Dean Karnazes
Rating

I am not yet old. But as middle age sets in and my youth fades to memories I find that my body just isn’t what it used to be. It’s harder to keep those 7 minute miles. My back hurts most mornings. My hips hurt throughout the day. Soreness lasts for days rather than hours. I have to take more days off and get more sleep.

This is a book about aging. World famous “Ultramarathon Man” Dean Karnazes faces his own fading abilities as he approaches sixty but still takes on the world’s hardest ultras as an ambassador of the sport. This is his journey to get to and through the Western States 100.

I enjoyed this book but I’m not sure it’s for everyone. I definitely recommend it to my fellow endurance junkies who find themselves hitting the Ibuprofen bottle more than they used to.
